SOMEONE THAT ISN’T ME

Alguien que no soy yo written by Alí Calderón
Translated from the Spanish by Guadalupe Robles

SOMEONE THAT ISN’T ME
but identical to me in every way
rounds my steps and follows me.

Another
is the one that picks my words

       and rubrics my acts

my memory is remembered by another

another
is the one who behind my eyes monitors.

Someone to whom I am an alternative

     stalks me in the mirror
              and traces one by one

     even the slightest grimace.

To the likeness and precise reflection

        I am not me,
but the image of the other.
