Someone I’m not

Alguien que no soy yo written by Alí Calderón
Translated from the Spanish by Alejandra González Jiménez

Someone I’m not

is identical to me in everything

and pursues my steps and follows me.

Someone else enunciates my words

                                                    and steals my actions.

My memory is remembered by someone else.

Someone else keeps an eye on me.

Someone else of whom I’m an alternative

           creeps up in the mirror

                   and copies one by one

                                          even the most unnoticeable grimaces.

To my likeness and precise reflection

I’m not me but rather someone’s image.
