IN THE LIGHTNESS AND SWING OF HER STEP

En la ligereza y vaivén de su paso written by Alí Calderón
Translated from the Spanish by Guadalupe Robles

IN THE LIGHTNESS
          AND SWING
  OF HER STEP

the air shakes with clarity

the most white
               and dazzling
                        light of day

                 surrounds her waist

The fine sands beneath the tide
  	          in the sun
shine harmless glimmer
  against her open lid

The flowering sweetness ignites the total growth of her flesh

and in her shines

intense
and insatiable

the incomparable shine of the beautiful

All potency in her body
reaches the quality of the act

Only through her being-in

  can existence be fully seen

The morning most clear
           most inconceivably luminous and limpid

        lives in her

The sun of noon shines fully beneath the subtle
        and soft
       string of her blouse

And the curvature of the image

nevertheless

     hides a different truth:

Her lips are the enchanting verse
        the smoothness of the flame

in which poetry

burns

She is transparency.
